NC Council for Women & Youth Involvement COLLEGE SPEAKERS SERIES

 

WHAT: NC Council for Women & Youth Involvment (NCCFW/YI), the state’s leading voice on key issues impacting the lives of women and families, offers an exciting new educational series to college women interested in meeting members of the Governor’s Domestic Violence Board and Council for Women Advisory Board. Members and the Executive Director will provide insight on a range of topics impacting women’s success today including:

  • Women in Politics
  • Campaign managers
  • Strategies
  • Public Relations
  • Advocacy/Boards and Commissions
  • Leadership
  • Public Speaking

 

WHEN: NCCFW/YI seeks to meet the needs of its partners.

WHO: NCCFW/YI College Speakers Series is led by its Executive Director, Mary Williams-Stover. Mrs. Williams-Stover was appointed by Governor Cooper to lead the 50 year-old Council for Women and Youth Involvement, and to manage a budget of $12 million administered annually to over 200+ domestic violence and rape crisis centers, along with the Family Violence Prevention Services program administered to 90+ domestic violence shelters and prevention programs, and to expose the young adults/youth across our state to the unlimited opportunites through the State Internship Program, S.A.D.D. and local Youth Councils. Speakers also include members of the Governor’s N.C. Council for Women Advisory Board who are appointed to serve 2-year terms by the Speaker of the House of Representatives or the Speaker Pro-Temp of the N.C. General Assembly. The Advisory Board has launched the following programs in 2015-2016: Legislative Day at the General Assembly, Go Red for Women, The Women and Girls Initiative, a leadership forum held at the Governor’s Executive Mansion in Raleigh with over 100 girls and women leaders.

WHERE: The NCCFW/YI College Speakers Series has targeted the following colleges and universities for 2016

William Peace University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Appalachian State University, University of North Carolina – Wilmington, N.C. State University and Wake Technical Community College.
